The Culture Day: Music from all over the World was an unforgettable event that left a lasting impression on the audience. On 25th April 2023, the lecture hall L318 was filled with an electric atmosphere as the event of the Welcome Point project kicked off. This event was hosted by the project coordinator, Agnieszka Będkowska-Kopczyk, and Bartosz Dębowski from the International Relations Office.
The event started with an awe-inspiring performance by two young and incredibly talented violinists and singers, Zofia and Helena Kliś. Their performance of folk music from the Beskid Żywiecki region, coupled with two contemporary pieces of sung poetry performed by Zofia, left the audience breathless. The duo also graced the stage in the traditional clothing of the Żywiec highlanders.
Mr. Mirosław Kordos from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science then took to the stage to showcase the increased depth of microtonal music, and its solid mathematical background. The performance proved how closely linked the disciplines of music and mathematics are.
After this, Mr. Rafał Majzner from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, who is himself an opera singer, presented a short but powerful story of opera, accompanied by some of the most notable examples of this branch of art.
The grand finale was a great concert by Mr. Jaume Vidal, also from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. His set of songs in Catalan, English, Polish, and Spanish, accompanied by his guitar and occasional vocal participation of the audience, was a true celebration of culture and diversity.
The Cultural Meeting provided an opportunity for the audience to experience a diverse range of music, from folk to contemporary, and from microtonal to opera. The event was an excellent occasion for the academic community to come together and share a passion for music, and it will forever be remembered as a truly unforgettable experience.
