E+ Learn to Play for the Future: Transforming Education Through Games

Data: 24.01.2025 Kategoria: WH-S

On November 18, 2024, the Rector of the University of Bielsko-Biała, dr hab. Jacek Nowakowski, prof. UBB, signed the agreement officially launching an exciting new Erasmus+ project: Learn to Play for the Future. The Project works, coordinated by dr Elwira Lewandowska, kicked off in December, with the first step being a thorough meta-analysis of game-based learning and gamification implementation across partner countries and beyond.

This research will lay the foundation for the creation of innovative syllabi, as the project aims to bridge a crucial gap: while future teachers often lack awareness of how games can enhance education, aspiring game developers rarely consider the educational potential of their creations. Learn to Play for the Future sets out to change that by equipping both groups with the tools and knowledge to design effective educational games.

What Makes This Project Stand Out?

Over the next three years, an international team will develop and test a curriculum for teaching future educators and game developers how to create engaging educational games. The initiative includes:

  • A Universal Toolbox: The EduGame Maker toolkit, a user-friendly game creation tool for teachers, will be freely accessible after rounds of testing.
  • Educational Games: Students in the program will develop their own educational games, which will be made available for use in schools or at home.
  • Research and Insights: A deep dive into game-based learning at universities, focusing on current practices, needs, and the impact of this approach on students.

The project, funded under the Erasmus KA220 scheme, brings together a diverse team of experts:

  • University of Ss. Cyril and Methodius in Trnava (Slovakia)
  • University of Bielsko-Biała (Poland)
  • Comenius University Bratislava, Faculty of Education (Slovakia)
  • Impact Games (Slovakia)
  • South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences (Finland)

What’s Next?
The consortium has held its first online meeting to allocate tasks and establish the project methodology. Early activities focus on identifying key needs and designing course content that integrates gamification and game-based learning.
